Christmas 2008

A synopsis of our Christmas...

As usual, despite out best intentions, we didn't get our tree early again. So, we chose from what was left. As you can see below, Whitney was not thrilled by our choice.

Christmas seemed to sneak up on us again. Everyone has been so busy, all the sudden it was Christmas Eve! So, off we went to Christmas Eve service at church.

We don't think Christmas Eve services are supposed to be particularly amusing, but there was one part that just broke our family up. During the service, one of the song leaders was describing how the angels appeared to the shepherds. She said shepherds of the day were not held in high esteem. She said, "I hope I don't offend anyone, but in today's terms, it would be like someone who works at Burger King or at a carnival or something like that." Well---considering Whitney is currently working at Burger King while at school, we could barely contain our giggles, especially as Whitney's mouth dropped open, and she kept mouthing, "I'm offended!

After church, we went out to dinner, which has become a tradition in recent years. Then we went home. On Christmas Eve, the kids exchange their gifts to each other, and they give their gifts to us. And, we always give the kids each a new pair of pajamas to wear on Christmas morning. It was a great time together. Urbane asked for a Raven's hat. And Whitney did not disappoint, as you can see. What a hat! Urbane fully intends to wear it to the Ravens-Jaguars game on Sunday.

Whitney is going with him to the game, BUT WILL NOT BE WEARING THE COLTS HAT!!!

So, now on to the rest of Christmas....

Even though they are getting older, Blake and Whitney woke up the household at 7am (the earliest we allow on Christmas morning.) For the second year in a row, we had a sick kid on Christmas day. Last year it was Blake. This year, Dayne started at 2:30am. We were concerned he wouldn't be able to make it through the morning, especially when we came down and saw him at 7am.

But he finally perked up, and we even managed to get a smile out of him, (with his eyes open).

Some other pics of the morning...

Christmas dinner was wonderful, yet very casual---with the kids never getting out of their pajamas all day. One of our neighbors dropped off an apple pie to us in the afternoon, with baking instructions. What a thoughtful suprise, and a delicious treat!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
